In today’s world of television talking heads and op-eds on the web and newscasts, everyone has an opinion on what we should do. But what if there were a simple set of instructions already written? What if the long comments could be set aside and our moral compass could be boiled down to just a few words?

That’s exactly what Micah did, when he recorded these words, “He has shown you, O man, what is good. He has told you what the Lord requires: to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

To do justly. To live with a view towards justice, to promote justice. It means to confront oppression in every area we see it. It means to live in a way where you strive to battle inequities. That's what it is to live justly.

To love mercy. Mercy has the connotation of granting forgiveness when that’s not what they deserved. To express kindness towards them, it’s this overriding idea of being compassionate, to have mercy on someone who is less fortunate than you.

To walk humbly. This means you walk in a way that's free of arrogance, free of judgment, and free of self-righteousness.

That's what the Lord requires of you. Act justly, be compassionate, and be humble. In this series, we explore how to walk these out in our day to day lives.
